Vein Treatment

Dèjá Vu Skin & Vein Center is the most complete vein center in the Tri-State area.  We perform the most advanced vein procedures, and Dr. Manley is the only board-certified phlebologist (vein specialist) in the Evansville area.  All procedures are performed in the office with minimal discomfort.  Our employees are all highly trained professionals dedicated to the best interests of our patients.

What is Vein Disease?

Veins are the blood vessels that return blood to the heart from the body.  Inside the veins are one-way valves that keep the blood flowing in the proper direction.  Veins in the legs are subject to the force of gravity and often become diseased due to high pressure within the vessels.  Valves often fail causing veins to stretch out in diameter and length.  In some patients, one valve failure can lead to failure of the next valve and so on down the leg, eventually causing large unsightly varicose veins.  In other patients, significant vein disease can exist without any obvious varicose veins.

Symptoms of Vein Disease

Patients with vein disease in the legs complain of aching, pain, heaviness, tiredness, restless leg syndrome, numbness, tingling, or swelling in the legs.  Many, but not all, patients with significant varicose vein disease have large bulging veins.  The only way to know if your symptoms are due to vein disease is to have a vein mapping ultrasound test performed by a qualified vascular ultrasound technologist.

Dangers of Vein Disease

Vein disease in the legs is not just a cosmetic problem.  Patients with varicose veins have a significantly increased risk of developing deep vein blood clots (DVT - deep vein thrombosis) that can escape to the lungs (pulmonary embolism) and cause death or disability.  Vein disease can also cause disabling leg symptoms that interfere with the ability to work or perform normal activities.

Methods of Treatment

The treatment of vein disease of the legs has advanced dramatically in the last ten years.  Now, all treatments can be performed safely in the physician's office at less cost, with significantly less discomfort, and post-operative limitations than in the past.  The modern vein center offers the following treatment modalities:  endovenous closure (EVLT), microphlebectomy, ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy, visual sclerotherapy, external laser therapy, and compression therapy.  Every patient is different, and most do not need all of the modalities.  Treatment is based on the results of the patient's physical examination and vein mapping ultrasound.  Dèjá Vu is the only clinic in the Tri-State that offers all of the above treatment options.

Evaluation of Vein Disease

A thorough evaluation of your vein condition is needed to ensure proper treatment is recommended.  During your initial vein consultation at Dèjá Vu Skin & Vein Center, we will get your complete vein and medical history as well as a diagnostic ultrasound to evaluate your condition if you have any of the symptoms that were described above.  Based on these findings, you will meet with Dr. Manley approximately one week later, and he will determine your individualized treatment plan.

Once your treatment plan is determined, our office will send a pre-determination to your insurance company to verify coverage.  Once we receive confirmation of the approval from your insurance, we will schedule your procedures.  Each individual's treatment plan will greatly vary according to their particular condition.  Some patients may take up to six months or longer to complete their treatment plan.
