BOTOX®
What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is a purified form of one of the toxins produced by the botulinum bacteria, which can be highly toxic in large doses. The miniscule doses used in wrinkle treatment; however, are hundreds of times less than the toxic dose. After millions of treatments over the last fifteen years there have been no credible cases of systemic illness reported as a result of BOTOX® injections.
BOTOX® can be used to reduce facial wrinkles
OR
for treatment of hyperhidrosis (underarm sweating).
BOTOX® for facial wrinkles.
BOTOX® injections reduce or eliminate facial wrinkles giving patients a relaxed and younger appearance. Treatments are safe and last three to four months.
How does it work?
BOTOX® causes a temporary paralysis of the muscles into which it is injected. This makes the muscles relax. Without tension on the skin existing wrinkles fade and new ones are prevented. Relaxing the forehead muscles can also sometimes make the eyebrow elevate giving the eyes a more open and refreshed appearance.
How is the treatment performed?
If you have sensitive skin we can use a topical anesthetic on the skin to deaden the feeling of the injections. The injections usually consist of 3-5 for the frown lines between the eyebrows, 4-8 for the forehead, and 2-3 on each side for the crow’s feet. A patient may get a single area injected or all areas at the same time. Treatment only takes a few minutes.
BOTOX® for hyperhidrosis.
BOTOX® can also be used for the treatment of hyperhidrosis (severe underarm sweating) when topical agents no longer work. BOTOX® treatment helps to control this condition by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. Treatments are safe and last six to nine months.
